Unlike the epidermis which is composed of closely packed cells, the dermis contains only limited amount of cells and made of an extra cellular matrix - a network of protein fibers embedded in a viscous polysaccharide (proteoglycans) gel. The skin’s structure, especially its firmness and elasticity depends on the composition and structure of this matrix.
The matrix components (such as collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid) are mainly produced and secreted by fibroblasts (connective tissue cells). The extra cellular matrix supports the three dimensional structure of the skin. The breakdown of the matrix components causes wrinkles and loss of elasticity.
The MMP’S (Matrix Metallo Proteinases)are a group of about 20 enzymes specialized in the breakdown of the extra cellular matrix components. Their role is to cause a slow degradation of the matrix so that it can be renewed. During the process of skin ageing and also due to environmental factors (such as UV light) , the balance between MMP’S and their inhibitors is disturbed. This imbalance causes the increase of MMP’S activity and the intensive breakdown of collagen, elastin and other matrix components. The direct result is loss of skin elasticity, firmness and excessive wrinkles formation.
Recent research demonstrated that it is possible to use MMP’S inhibitors in cosmetic preparations to prevent degradation processes in the tissue and to improve skin firmness.
Special MMP’S inhibitors derived from Blackberry leaves and Argan leaves are used in the MATRIX CARE SERIES. These ingredients were proved to be very efficient inhibitors of MMP-1 (enzyme specialized in the breakdown of collagen) and MMP-9 (enzyme specialized in the breakdown of elastin)
The Matrix Care products are further enriched with effective ingredients for tissue restoration, wrinkles reduction and firmness enhancement.
The feel and the texture of the products is exceptionally pleasant.
The series includes 3 products:
- MATRIX CARE MOISTURIZING CREAM for normal dry skin: A cream with a light and pleasant feel. Contains MMP’S inhibitors together with effective moisturizers such as hyaluronic acid and an effective combination of sunscreens. The product meets the Australian standard for UV-A protection (absorbs more than 90% of the UV-A radiation).
- MATRIX CARE NOURISHING CREAM for normal dry skin: In addition to the MMP’S inhibitors this cream contains also “DERMAXYL” – a bio-mimetic peptide with proven effects in minimizing wrinkles. The product contains also vitamin B3 (niacinamide) recently proved to promote collagen synthesis in the dermis, to promote ceramides synthesis (the main lipids of the skin barrier) in the epidermis and to support energy production in the cells. The texture of the cream is very soft and silky.
- MATRIX CARE SERUM: A serum with a silky feel, contains MMP’S inhibitors, Dermaxyl, vitamin E and a new vitamin C compound - stable and very effective for skin regeneration and restoration.
MATRIX GOLD MASK: Soft texture mask rich in nourishing emollients such as shea butter, wheat germ oil and avocado oil. It contains also pomegranate extract and vitamin E. This mask has nourishing, moisturizing and lightening effect.
